Welcome to Big Canoe®, a quiet, secure, retreat, just an hour from Atlanta. Whether you are looking for a rustic cabin to enjoy on weekends or a gracious traditional home to live in full time, you will find just the right home to meet your needs nestled among the seven mountains that make up our community.
Mountain views and pleasant valleys abound. Twenty percent of Big Canoe® is devoted to green space and will never be developed. Miles of nature trails meander along streams, around lakes, across ridges, and through wildflowers. Hike or drive along the jeep trail and be rewarded with a view of the Upper and Lower Falls…two distinctly different waterfalls.
A wonderful way to enjoy our beautiful surroundings is to take in a round of golf on our twenty-seven hole course. Visit the pro shop inside the clubhouse or practice at the driving range. To improve your game arrange for a private lesson or plan to participate in a golf clinic.
Golf not for you? Big Canoe® has 2 indoor tennis courts, 9 outdoor lighted tennis courts, bocce ball courts, soccer fields, a basketball court, and two playgrounds for the little ones.
A fitness center staffed with knowledgeable trainers and the latest fitness equipment is available seven days a week. Yoga, Pilates, low-impact aerobics, and total body conditioning are among the classes offered to help you stay fit.
During warm weather, Big Canoe® residents take advantage of our professionally managed swim club pool, beach area and rock slide. The Wildcat recreation area is the home of another pool and a special wading pool for toddlers. A covered shelter at Wildcat is a great gathering place for friends and families. And don’t miss a chance to spend a leisurely afternoon fishing or picnicking on a pontoon boat rental at Lake Pettit.
There are many special interest groups in Big Canoe® including book clubs, writers club, bridge clubs, hiking clubs, quilting groups…even a club for wildflower and gardening enthusiasts. The chapel offers worship, study, opportunities for benevolence, and often sponsors guest speakers and performers at the chapel or amphitheatre.
In addition to the chapel, our region has many places of worship to choose from and many opportunities for volunteering and service in and around Big Canoe®.
We enjoy four distinct seasons in the mountains of north Georgia. Winters and summers are usually moderate. During the fall, you will find area small towns come alive with seasonal festivals. Many orchards and farms are an easy drive from Big Canoe®. Enjoy the fruit and vegetables of the fall harvest and experience hayrides and petting zoos with the kids.
The community is also close to Jasper and Dawsonville. These towns have nice restaurants and professional services such as doctors and dentist offices. There also lots of restaurant choices. Here is a link to learn more about Jasper by clicking here. Also here is the official website of Dawsonville Ga.
