What a fabulous day in the N. Georgia Mountains. Winter so far has not been harsh and due to unseasonably warm temperatures daffodils are in bloom all around. The market seems to be in the upward trend, although buyers continue to look for foreclosures and steals, sometimes missing out on some great opportunities without the hassle of the foreclosure process. It continues to be a Buyers’ Market. Interest rates continue to be at a all time low which is a real help in purchasing. So if you are in a position to purchase property, Home or Home Site, now is the time before rates and prices begin to climb upward.

I have just listed a great home in the Historic District of Barnesville, Ga with 25 acres which has potential for commercial development

New Board for 2012 with display of clothing and toys donated to assist over 85 Families in Need in Pickens County. It was an amazing sight to see when we took these gifts to the Tate Gym to donate. The ladies there had worked so hard to group toys and clothing so the families could come in and find just the right items for their children for Christmas. A lot of people turned on their heart light to make it possible for the families to be able to provide joy and happiness to their children.

As the days shorten, and frosty mornings greet those of us who find ourselves in the mountains of North Georgia, late autumn is a wonderful time to take in those last trips to the apple orchards that dot this unique landscape. From farm to table, scrumptious family recipes made with genuinely fresh apples are never beyond reach, as numerous varieties are still coming into harvest…a sweet reward of life in this region. The breathtaking landscape of the North Georgia Mountains warrants a drive on any given afternoon, whether to stop and pick apples for use in baking pies, or to sip the ready-made cider many establishments offer the cold passerby. Early fall in North Georgia welcomes numerous tourists, drawn to the area, eager to attend the plethora of annual fall festivals, choose pumpkins and delight in the novelty of picking apples. It is this time of the season, as autumn wanes, that locals can relish the benefits of living in this relaxed and awe-inspiring part of America. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, and fiery foliage just past, many people have retreated to the warmth and comfort of the indoors. Those of us in and around Big Canoe, who relish the invigorating change of seasons, however, embrace this opportunity to enjoy such local excursions as a brisk hike up to Springer Mountain, or a visit to the nature center and well-groomed trails of Amicalola Falls State Park. A candlelight dinner at the Oar House restaurant in Dahlonega offers a chance to experience the cool evenings and ambience of nature while dining in an intimate setting along the Chestatee River. Take a weekend, with tourist season on hiatus, to visit and see what North Georgia has to offer, and why so many who have come as tourists, have stayed on as residents…

What a wonderful day in the N. Georgia Mountains and Big Canoe. Neighbors, friends, and families all enjoyed the beautiful October Blue Sky and all of the fantastic German Food along with the entertainment of the Oompha Band playing lots of Polkas and much more. Vendors from all around brought their wears and many of the clubs and volunteer opportunities of Big Canoe Community were present. The Wildflower Bunch was there with their beautiful calendars All pictures taken by local neighbors of the beautiful scenes from Big Canoe Community. BCAR (Big Canoe Animal Rescue) was present and brought along a few of the pup so they could choose thier new families. From all of the activity I am pretty sure most if not all went home with new excited families. Oktoberfest is just one way that reminds us how great Big Canoe is and what a fantastic life style we enjoy while being a very active community. Give me a call so I can share more of my Community with you.

Neighbors brought picnic baskets and spread blankets and set up chairs for Concert on the Green last weekend to listen to the beautiful music of “The Sounds of Reinhardt University” under the direction of David Gregory,Dennis McIntire and Richard Bell. Comprised of close to 150 musicians, the Reinhardt Music Department has been performing to capacity audiences in their own Falany Performing Arts Center for 10 years. During the past 10 years their music department has grown almost 15 fold from just seven to 102 music majors. The department is now fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NSM) and offers graduate degrees in music education, conducting and piano pedagogy.

As is a customary occurrence in Big Canoe Neighbors, Friends and Families look forward to all of the many social events planned by the POA and the HOA.

This weekend is the Oktoberfest which is such a success and fun filled day with Bands and lots of good food and drink. There will be vendors selling everything from handmade items to cakes and cookies and probably homemade puppy treats too! With the beautiful October Blue Sky and the beauty of Big Canoe life is good!

What a great day in the N. Ga Mountains. Real Estate Agents gathered together yesterday to preview properties that are new on the market. I got there a little early and stopped to speak to a Big Canoe friend that was walking her rescue pup (Labradoddle) and she told me that she saw a Bear near the realty office in the heart of Big Canoe but he/she just lumbered off. Her pup (a pretty large dog that likes to talk to anyone that doesn’t pet her) just sat very quietly not sure what to do. The good thing is that there was no incident. Although, we continue to have extreme heat, leaves are falling and early mornings and late evenings the temperatures send the fall breezes. We are all ready for fall and the beauty of the amazing colors nature sends us.

Although sweltering temperature and intense humidity suggest that summer is still in full swing, the occasional evening breeze reminds us that our fall trip back to Big Canoe is just around the corner. This is, perhaps, a collective favorite annual tradition of mine as well as my husband and two children. There is an invigorating feeling, brought on by the cooler temperatures, after the lethargic “dog days” of summer.

Unlike our sojourns at Thanksgiving, Christmas or even Spring Break, our Fall odyssey permits flexibility in planning, as we are not hemmed in by specific dates. Any weekend we choose will promise festivals, music celebrations and any number of activities in and around Big Canoe.

One activity we know we can’t miss: apple picking! Our favorite orchard to visit is nearby R and A Orchards in Ellijay, GA. Their website has the dates of harvest for all of their apples (by name and specifics), and any other fruit that is ripe for picking. For a city girl like me, such information is tremendously helpful, especially as we plan for baking! Another outing we always take in is to Cagle’s Family Farm, located a short drive south in Canton. A working farm, with lots to do, but the highlight is undoubtedly the impressive corn maze, which, for the not-so-faint-of-heart, is also open at night! For a trip into the city, ZooAtlanta is high on our to-do list at this time of year, the moderate temperatures making it a pleasant outing for us and we also know that the animals will be more active than they are during the heat of summer. Before we head home, a stop at the Burt’s Farm, open only during the fall months, to choose the family’s future jack-o’-lantern never disappoints – their motto sums it up: “a one-day Fall vacation!” Lastly, we never pass up a drive through the mountains to see the beautiful fall foliage. I recently learned that there is a term for those of us who take a drive specifically for this purpose: “leaf- peepers!” Whether it’s hiking at nearby Amicalola Falls State Park, or driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway, there are ample “leaf-peeping” opportunities!

So, unplug, lace up the hiking boots, and head for the mountains of North Georgia to celebrate one of the most dramatic seasonal transitions.

Wishing you all a Safe and Happy Labor Day. I am not sure where the summer went but all of a sudden school is back in session and summer is soon a memory. This summer, even in the N. Ga Mountains of Big Canoe, the heat has been overwhelming. I do not remember a summer being so hot for so long. I know in a few months I will probably be wishing for a warm day but right now I am really looking forward to some cooler weather. We will all try to remember the summer heat in the cold winter months and all the leaves off the trees showing us a bleak and cold day. I promise to try not to whine when bundeling up to go out and show property.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the last remaining days of Summer.

Please remember if you have friends or family in need of my services and do not have an agent feel free to give them my contact information and I will work with them in a professional and helpful manner.

Because we are surrounded by wildlife I find this a much better way to enjoy the fruits of my labor. To achieve my goal I begin by visiting my local nursery and deciding on a color pallet for my garden. This year I chose Pink and Purple with white accents. To get a real WOW from my pots I usually purchase twice as many plants as I think I need. That way when I finish planting the pots are beautiful to look at right from the beginning and just get better every day. I find that watering, feeding and dead heading are the real keys to keeping my plants healthy and continuously putting out new blooms. When the plants have finished their blooming season I empty my pots of the soil but leave the rocks on the bottom for drainage and then fill them with a layer of soil and then bulbs. Continue layering the soil and the bulbs ending with soil on top for planting my pansies. In the spring as the heat begins to take it’s toll on the pansies the bulbs will begin to bloom for a fabulous show stopping exhibit . For my larger pots I have gotten as many as 50 bulbs in one pot and the end result was amazing. Watch for my pictures of tulips next spring.
