Big Canoe and North Georgia in Late Fall

Posted on: November 2, 2011 • Posted by: Sandra Jones

As the days shorten, and frosty mornings greet those of us who find ourselves in the mountains of North Georgia, late autumn is a wonderful time to take in those last trips to the apple orchards that dot this unique landscape. From farm to table, scrumptious family recipes made with genuinely fresh apples are never beyond reach, as numerous varieties are still coming into harvest...a sweet reward of life in this region.  The breathtaking landscape of the North Georgia Mountains warrants a drive on any given afternoon, whether to stop and pick apples for use in baking pies, or to sip the ready-made...

Fall Visit to North Georgia

Picking the perfect apple! Although sweltering temperature and intense humidity suggest that summer is still in full swing, the occasional evening breeze reminds us that our fall trip back to Big Canoe is just around the corner. This is, perhaps, a collective favorite annual tradition of mine as well as my husband and two children. CONTAINER GARDENING

Posted on: July 16, 2011 • Posted by: Sandra Jones

Planting in pots is a wonderful way to enjoy your garden without fear of  finding that the next morning you have served a buffet for the deer. Because we are surrounded by wildlife I find this a much better way to enjoy the fruits of my labor.  To achieve my goal I begin by visiting my local nursery and deciding on a color pallet for my garden. This year I chose Pink and Purple with white accents.  To get a real WOW from my pots I usually purchase twice as many plants as I think I need.  That way when I finish planting the pots are beautiful to look at right from the beginning and just get...
